Too much & Too little time....

Just packing, planning and tying up loose ends before I split to Rio on Thursday. Aye Carumba!!! I’m exhausted.

Last night I attended a free lecture featuring world-famous consumer advocate Ralph Nader. The event took place in the beautiful Design Xchange building on Bay Street. Nader is running for president again, in the 2008 US election, and so he was here in Toronto yesterday, drumming up support both from us Canadians, and from Americans living abroad. He is a marvel! What a tireless crusader against big business and government corruption. Very inspiring. Too bad the Q&A featured a couple of loose screws.

Hard to believe this guy is in his 70’s. What a brave soul. The evening also featured segments from the Nader documentary An Unreasonable Man. Great film!

My Toronto Star Article finally got published

…and although there are some errors, some embarrassing details and some sketchy journalistic licence, it’s always fun to have one’s name in print. To read the article go here:

So last night my pal Karen B dragged me to a party to celebrate the launch of a new Adidas running shoe. I know… ridiculous or what? But there were free drinks, and a few nibbles and a few cute ladies mingling about, so I didn’t mind too  too much. Especially after meeting the loverly and talented Rachel (bottom pic on the right). She’s in a band. That’s hot!
BTW the new running shoe is designed by a Canadian, and it is touted as being 100% enviro-friendly. However I am sure it’s still assembled by underpaid children in SE Asia. Ya gotta be “green” not to figure that one out.

Brazillian Film Fest Part Deux

I watched the award-winning drama City Of God last night, and it was totally amazing! I have been trying to screen as many Brazillian films (hopefully set in Rio, in preparation of my upcoming trip to that Brazillian hot spot) and so far I have screened Central Station and the above mentioned City Of God. Both recommended highly, but City Of God is the one to pick in an either/or situation. Thanks to Lisa S btw for bringing me over her downloaded bootleg torrent version of the film for us to watch. Bueno!

Now if I could just find a copy of Blame It On Rio somewhere in this city. Even Blockbuster doesn’t have one. No bueno!

I ended up at The Tattoo Rock Parlour last night for the weekly Rock’n’Roll Karaoke extravaganza. I normally wouldn’t have ever ventured within that joint, but my ol’ pal Karen was having a birthday get together there. However once the band (this is karaoke with a LIVE band) hit the stage, and the singers started coming up, it was actually a pretty fun night. There was some Journey, some Bowie (the guy stole my signature song Suffragette City), and some Joan Jett but it was birthday girl Natasha (in the pic - yes a different birthday gal) who stole the show with her incredible version of Whole Lotta Love. Astonishing!
Turns out Natasha also works at the bar, and is also one of the organizers of the night, so I won’t be surprised to see her doing some Zeppelin again. And with the way she looks I will gladly go back to see her do it. Hoo chee wawa! (sorry about the cell phone pic but it was all I had on hand)

I’d post a pic of ME on the sail from Sunday but…. why bother when pix like this one of Marilyn are available.
Yesterday I hung out at the pool at my friend Scott’s place. We’ll be teaming up in Rio in just under 2 weeks. Bueno!

Went for a relaxing late afternoon sail yesterday, with Captain John, and I finally got a chance to take Barista Supremo Marilyn E out for a watery jaunt. It was a funny day. First no wind, then too much wind, then just enough. But the sun-dappled waters of Lake Ontario never looked so loverly. You would almost think it wasn’t polluted.
And we all took tons of pix so no doubt I’ll be posting a few more.

Day off

It’s Simcoe Day holiday weekend here in Toronto, and although Caribana has taken over the city, all the internet cafés wisely chose this weekend to shut the doors and escape. I found that out after riding to several closed shoppes this morning.

I had an amusing day yesterday entertaining a Craigslist acquaintance from Buffalo, who was in town to shop, and then after she left I went out drinking (and a tiny bit of dancing) with Damian, Nisha and the rest of the crew. Smokin’ hot!
